The city's very own Ostrava Museum is worthy of a look and offers a good insight into times gone by, while the extremely popular Museum of Coal Mining is certainly one attraction not to miss and renowned throughout Europe. Located on the northern side of Ostrava, the Museum of Coal Mining is known locally as the Hornické Muzeum and is to be found within the 19th-century Anselm pit colliery. The museum buildings display an array of exhibits relating to mining from all over North Moravia and it is even possible to descend down an old coalface and shaft.
