Photo of central sculpture in the sunshineThe temperate climate of Ostrava means that this city enjoys a warm summer season and chilly, often rather humid winters.

Throughout the year, the weather in Ostrava is strongly influenced by its setting on the eastern side of the Czech Republic, and although the summers can be sunny, rain showers are to be expected on and off.

Each year, Ostrava experiences a total annual rainfall of around 600 mm / 24 inches, so whenever you choose to arrive, do pack expecting to see at the very least a spot of rainy weather. Those arriving in the summer will find a warm and at times even hot climate, with temperatures in July and August regularly topping 23°C / 73°F or even 25°C / 77°F.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Ostrava is at its quietest in both spring and autumn, and so if you want to miss the crowds, this is a good time to visit. At both these times of the year, the climate is pleasantly warm and the seasons have much to offer, with springtime flowers and autumnal fall colours.

The frosty and snowy winter weather can make a holiday in Ostrava extremely special, memorable and quite romantic. However, make no mistake - November, December, January and February are all extremely chilly months, so bring a thick jumper, coat, scarf, gloves, and of course, a camera to capture the Czech winter landscape.
